I gained 30 lbs while pregnant with my second child. My small 5’2 frame weighed 148 lbs when I peed on that little pink stick. By 39 weeks pregnant my body had gotten up too 178 lbs. I know that if I wanted to lose the weight I would have to make some changes. But making these simple 8 changes I’m back at my pre pregnancy weight.
1) Breastfeed/Pump if you can
On average our bodies burn 20 calories per ounce of breastmilk we produce. So it can really help you lose that baby weight quickly, besides it being both great for you and baby.
2) Do something active everyday
“A body in motion stays in motion” so they say, I definitely think these are words to live by. It’s definitely great if you can make it to the gym or do a workout DVD 5 days a week, but I know being a new mom or having another child theres not always time for that. I know I seem to barely have time to work out so I make it a point to do something active for at least 30 mins a day, whether its go on a walk with my son or jump on the trampoline with him. It’s easier for me to use my time to be active as also a way to bond with my kids. Whatever you have time for, just try to do it for 30 minutes a day and at least five days a week.
3) Cut out the carbs!
Yes I said it! I love carbs. I could eat bread at every meal. But I definitely can’t if I want to lose weight or maintain my weight. Protein is now my go too. The only bread I allow myself to have is Nature’s Own Double Fiber Wheat bread. It is only 50 calories per slice!
4) Drink plenty of water!
Especially lemon water, don’t drink soda! I also drink one cup of coffee a day and some green tea, on top of a ton of water.
5) Change Your Life “diet” Plan
I don’t believe in diets. I think they usually have unfair rules I can’’t stick too. So I decided that 80-90% of the time I would make health conscious decisions about what I ate. Breakfasts I would have two boiled eggs and usually two slices of turkey bacon. Lunch would consist of greek yogurt and usually some turkey deli meat. For snacks I would have fruits or veggies dipped in hummus. And dinner usually consisted of another lean meat like chicken or fish and veggies. If you are breastfeeding make sure you are still consuming enough calories to keep your milk supply up.
6) Calorie Count!
I know its super boring and takes up more of your time(that you barely have with a newborn), but that’s where I really saw how much I ate. I have an iPhone and use this one called Track, it has tons of restaurants in there and you can also scan the item you’re eating.
7) Use a postpartum wrap
The compression on your tummy really seems to help! It also makes me feel more secure there after being cut open from having a c-section. I used this wrap that I purchased off Amazon. It’s actually three separate wraps that you can use individually or all together for a ton of support. After I first had Landon I only really wanted to use one because I wanted to feel more comfortable but as I lost more weight I wanted to wear all three of them.
8) Find your motivation
Whats your reason for losing weight in the first place? For me I wanted to fit back into my pre baby clothes. I also wanted to like my body again. It’s always important to feel confident in you own skin and as long as your confident I think that’s what makes a person the most attractive!
I know I’m not the skinniest girl in the world and I seemed to have always had a little bit of a belly, but I’m so happy with the progress I’ve made so far! I still would like to lose more weight and will stick to these ways when it comes to weight loss. I will keep you guys updated as my progress continues. Let me know your tips for weight loss and whats helped you lose the baby weight!
